Graphing COVID-19 Vaccination in Canada
There are three graphing options available below.
Unless otherwise noted, the data used comes from the
covid19tracker.ca API.
The data shows that the first vaccine doses were distributed on
Dec 13, 2020, with the first group of vaccinations starting on Dec 14.
So the graphs start in December 2020.
Show description of options here
-
Regional View: Select a region to graph four vaccination parameters
over time.
- the number of people who are fully vaccinated
(or percent of people fully vaccinated if % option selected)
- the number of people who have had at least one dose of vaccine
(or percent of people who have at least one dose if % option selected)
- the number of doses that have been administered in this region
(or number of doses given per 100 people if % option selected)
- the number of doses that this region
has received
(or number of doses available per 100 people if % option selected)
There are also some presentation options for the regional views:
- By Totals: shows the raw numbers of people or doses in the region.
- By Percent: corrects the data as a percentage of the region's
population.
- By Adult Percent:
corrects the data as a percentage of the region's adult (18 years
and over) population.
For the adult population calculations the number of adults is taken from
Statistics Canada. Starting as
early as mid-May some provinces started vaccinating 12 to 17 year old children.
The graph representing adult population calculations is less meaningful from
June onwards.
-
Regional Totals: this graph option shows all regions in a plot over time. The regions are geographically ordered from west to east accross
the provinces and then across the territories. Choose between:
- By Doses: Stacked presentation of total number of vaccine doses given
- By Percent: View of percent of regional population receiving at
least one dose
-
Vaccine Delivery: this option uses data from the Government of Canada's
web page on vaccine rollout. Initially once a week
the confirmed total numbers of vaccine doses distributed to the regions were
posted. More recently the numbers are updated twice a week; however I update
the graphs here once a week with the numbers posted near the end of the week.
No statistics were posted before January; so I dated the December deliveries
on Dec 31. Note that Pfizer doses trickled in starting on December 13, and
Moderna doses started arriving on Dec 24.
Vaccines approved for Canada so far include:
- Pfizer/BioNTech approved on: 2020-12-09, doses delivered so far: 42,655,584
- Moderna approved on: 2020-12-23, doses delivered so far: 18,041,170
- AstraZeneca approved on: 2021-02-26, doses delivered so far: 2,999,180
- Janssen approved on: 2021-03-05, doses delivered so far: 0
All graphs are available on a
single page as well.
